In conjunction with their sponsorship for DesignPhiladelphia 2017, The Rock Brook Consulting Group hosted a professional forum on Monday, October 9th at the Center for Architecture + Design in Philadelphia, PA. The forum, entitled “Medical Cannabis Grow Facilities: Unique Challenges for AEC Professionals” drew over fifty attendees from various professions within the design and construction industry, including some from the cannabis design and build industry. The discussion, lead by Rock Brook President Gregory J. DeMarco, Vice President Matthew Cofone, Senior Director Charles A. Rowland, and ARCUS Design Group Principal Jeffrey Balch, touched on various topics in relation to medical cannabis facility development, including application and licensing, design implications, financial challenges, and more.
“The fact of the matter is that this is a developing and immature industry, and as a growing number of states continue to forge ahead issuing licenses for these types of facilities, we wanted to share with our colleagues the unique challenges that we’ve encountered with the number of medical cannabis growth facility projects we’ve been involved in,” explained DeMarco. “The thrust and purpose of today’s presentation was to cultivate a discussion about the particular concerns, difficulties, and hurdles that professionals could face when designing building systems for this industry, as it continues to grow and present design professionals with opportunities as well as challenges.”
